Description:
The set of 7 souvenir coins minted in 2012 for Redonda Island is dedicated to the memory of Titanic wreckage. The Centenary of the Titanic’s tragedy is commemorated by the collection of non-precious coin-like tokens made of various metal alloys, thus having different colors. Each coin from the set has the distinct image and “denomination”. Three coins show the scenes of Titanic floating and sinking, two coins bear the images of the vessel’s features (anchor and bell). The last two coins depict the monuments dedicated to the victims of Titanic, which are set in Washington and Belfast. The theme of the coin set is explained next to the images along with the dates of the shipwreck and the coins’ producing. The opposite sides of the pieces bear the Coat of Arms and their face values. The name of the Redonda as the issuing territory is indicated there too although the island is uninhabited.
