    Description

1965 CAFE CINO BENEFIT at THE WRITER’S STAGE THEATER NYC BEAT GENERATION KEROUAC
Fully photographed, complete, and in outstanding condition, a very rare piece of beat generation literary history:  March 15 1965 a benefit was held for the venerable Cafe Cino at THE WRITER'S STAGE on 82nd East 4th St, not more from half a mile south from where this item is being listed.  Cafe Cino was THE Beat writers' hang-out for readings, writings, picking up chicks, finding out where the parties were and WHO had the weed....and of course and general schmoozing, poetry reading, political manifestos....you know, usual crap.  Ah, they make it all sound so noble now...truth is, most of the guys were in there to trying to impress each other and get laid.  It looks like the place must have burnt down the year before, so they put this benefit, together to save the joint.  I mean, this is a place where you could run into Bob Dylan and Jack Kerouac when they were still flipping burgers (so to speak)...  East 4th, out in the East Village...I'll walk over there and see if there is anything left.
All participants and events duly listed in this rare program and early effort at saving what was already a Beat Generation and Greenwich Village Icon:  Cafe Cino...have a look...its probably the only one in existence and its all up there.
